Cryptography |
| BestCrypt | The BestCrypt software products keep your private data in the encrypted form on the disk and provide you with the transparent access to it from any application program. Keep your letters, databases, private information in the encrypted form on a hard disk, removable medias, magneto-optical devices, CD ROMs, floppies and network disks - all within a standard operating system environment. Win32 and Unix versions available. |
| ccrypt | ccrypt is a commandline utility for encrypting and decrypting files and streams. It was designed to replace the standard Unix crypt utility, which is notorious for using a very weak encryption algorithm. ccrypt is based on the Rijndael cipher, which is the U.S. government's chosen candidate for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). This cipher is believed to provide very strong security. A compatibility mode is included for decrypting legacy "unix crypt" files. Win32 / Linux / Mac / Unix versions available. |
| Enigmail | Enigmail is a "plugin" for Mozilla/Netscape7 Mail which allows users to access the authentication and encryption features provided by the popular GPG and PGP software (see screenshots). Enigmail is open source and dually-licensed under the GNU General Public License and the Mozilla Public License . You can download and install Enigmail from the Download page. See the Help page for post-installation instructions. Enigmail can encrypt/sign mail when sending, and also decrypt/authenticate received mail. It can also import/export public keys. Enigmail supports both the inline PGP format, and the PGP/MIME format (RFC 3156), which can be used to encrypt attachments. Enigmail is cross-platform like Mozilla. |
| GNU Privacy Guard | GnuPG stands for GNU Privacy Guard and is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC 2440. As such, it is aimed to be compatible with PGP from NAI Inc. |
| Hushmail | HushMail is a free Web-based service that lets you send and receive email in total security. HushMail messages, and their attachments, are encrypted using OpenPGP standard algorithms. These algorithms, combined with HushMail's unique key management system, offer users unrivalled levels of security. HushMail's security is end-to-end; messages are encrypted before leaving these sender's computer and remain encrypted until after they arrive on the recipient's machine, where the contents are automatically decrypted. HushMail's encryption works automatically, transparently and seamlessly, requiring no specialized computer skills or knowledge. Encrypting a message is as simple as clicking a mouse. |
| OpenSSH | Secure rlogin/rsh/rcp replacement (OpenSSH) OpenSSH is derived from OpenBSD's version of ssh, which was in turn derived from ssh code from before the time when ssh's license was changed to be non-free. Ssh (Secure Shell) is a program for logging into a remote machine and for executing commands on a remote machine. It provides secure encrypted communications between two untrusted hosts over an insecure network. X11 connections and arbitrary TCP/IP ports can also be forwarded over the secure channel. It is intended as a replacement for rlogin, rsh and rcp, and can be used to provide rdist, and rsync with a secure communication channel. Considered by many experts to be one of the most secure methods of administrating a computer remotely. |
| PGP Freeware | PGP® or Pretty Good Privacy® is a powerful cryptographic product family that enables people to securely exchange messages, and to secure files, disk volumes and network connections with both privacy and strong authentication.
Privacy means that only the intended recipient of a message can read it. By providing the ability to encrypt messages, PGP provides protection against anyone eavesdropping on the network. Even if the information is intercepted, it is completely unreadable to the snooper. Authentication identifies the origin of the information, certainty that it is authentic, and that it has not been altered. Authentication also provides an extremely valuable tool in network security: verification of the identity of an individual. In addition to secure messaging, PGP also provides secure data storage, enabling you to encrypt files stored on your computer. |
| Poptop | PoPToP is the PPTP server solution for Linux (ports exist for Solaris 2.6, OpenBSD and FreeBSD and others). Before PoPToP no solution existed if you wished to include Linux servers in PPTP established VPNs. PoPToP resolved that problem by allowing Linux servers to function seamlessly in the PPTP VPN environment. This enables administrators to leverage the considerable benefits of both Microsoft and Linux. The current release version supports Windows 95/98/NT/2000 PPTP clients and PPTP Linux clients. PoPToP is free GNU software. |
| SecureCRT | SecureCRT combines the secure logon and data transfer capabilities of Secure Shell (SSH) with the reliability, usability and configurability of a proven Windows terminal emulator. Supports both SSH 1 and 2, as well as sftp. Supports OpenSSH private and public-key formats. Smart card-based public-key authentication using X.509-compatible certificates.

| SSH Tools | This site is dedicated to the open source development of Java enabled SSH servers, client applications and development libraries. Hosted by sourceforge.net, this site is the central resource for all the SSHTools open source projects. The latest project under the SSHTools family is SSHVnc, an integrated VNC client designed to operate over the SSH protocol. The application provides a welcome improvement over the multi-stage process currently required to use VNC over an SSH tunnel. |
| vncrypt | This is cryptographic disk driver for FreeBSD. It provides transparent encryption and decryption of selected devices. It is based on vn(4). File system level cryptography for FreeBSD! |
| Windows Privacy Tools | Windows Privacy Tools (WinPT) is a collection of multilingual applications for easy digital encryption and signing of content. It's GnuPG-based, compatible with OpenPGP compliant software (like PGP) and free for commercial and personal use under the GPL. A number of good plugins for popular email clients are included. |
